St. John Church is one of the oldest churches in Kolkata. The construction of the church started in 1784 and it was completed in 1787. In the early days, it served as the Anglican Cathedral of Calcutta till 1847. St. John Church was founded by the then Governor General of Bengal, Warren Hastings. The church is also renowned as “Pathur Girija or Stone Church, as it is made of brick and stone.
